Gender is mainly determined by one's society and culture, not merely their biological composition. Gender is constructed before birth when the parents are preparing for the child's delivery. Some of their activities would include painting the room pink for a girl or blue for a boy, and also making a future for their child by hoping they will become a "soccer player" if it's a boy or a "ballerina" if it's a girl. After the birth, the toys the child is given is also gender based: girls are usually given dolls and kitchen sets (domestic toys) to play with, while boys are given trucks, sports, and tool sets. There are also jobs that are associated with specific genders: mainly, males assume the "protective" roles (ie. firefighters, policemen, politicians) while females are assumed to take the nurturing roles (ie. nursing, mother, teacher). For those who do not assume the "socially accepted" role, they are most often shunned.
